It's hard to imagine a more breathtaking scene than what's pictured here. The 12,000 + foot peaks towering above the desert landscape. The 1.4 million acre Manti La Sal National Forest is a recreational paradise located nearby to Moab. Some of the activities you can enjoy in the Manti La Sal are Sight-Seeing, OHV riding, Camping, Hiking, Horseback Riding, Mountain Biking, Hunting, Fishing, Snowshoeing, Cross Country Skiing, Snowmobiling and Mountaineering.

A great time to visit the forest is in the middle of summer when it's hot in Moab and cool up high in the Manti. If your lungs and legs are up to it consider the 4.8 mile round trip hike up the picturesque Mount Tukuhnikivatz at 12,482 feet. This hike is very steep but you are rewarded with beautiful views and awesome scenery along the way. Be sure to grab a guide to the area like David Day's " Utah's Favorite Hiking Trails " before your visit to give you a more complete map and review of some of the trails like this one. Another guide to consider is Michael Kelsey's Mountaineering Utah which gives several options in the Manti La Sal to climb.
